The Varanasi Development Authority (VDA), established on August 19, 1974, plays a pivotal role in the planned development of a significant geographic area spanning approximately 793 square kilometres. This vast territory not only includes the urban epicentre of Varanasi but also extends to Mughalsarai and a large number of rural villages, totalling 601 in number.
