Overview or Purpose
The project aims to revitalize the District Library of Varanasi into a modern hub of learning, knowledge, and cultural exchange. The upgraded facility will provide access to a diverse collection of books, journals, magazines, and digital resources, serving as an educational and intellectual center for students, researchers, and the general public. The modern library will promote a culture of learning, creativity, and digital literacy among community members through advanced technological facilities. Designed on a “Net-Zero Energy” model, the new library will meet its energy requirements entirely through renewable energy sources, emphasizing environmental sustainability and energy efficiency. The proposed library will feature several key facilities, including a Heritage & Cultural Space, Multipurpose Hall, Digital Library Zone, Reading Hall, Administrative Offices (Office, Reception, Security Office), Children’s Play Zone, Cafeteria, and Clock Room. With an estimated cost of ₹2.06 crore, the modern District Library will accommodate around 500 readers at a time, providing inclusive and accessible spaces for students, senior citizens, differently-abled individuals, and children. Citizens will have access to magazines, newspapers, and literature on art, culture, and history, enriching the learning experience for all. Varanasi, being a major center of education, will greatly benefit from this initiative, which aims to foster intellectual growth, enhance digital literacy, and create a sustainable, inclusive environment for lifelong learning.
