Overview or Purpose

Under the ongoing Dhobhi Ghat project in Ramnagar, spearheaded by the Varanasi Development Authority, a comprehensive transformation is taking place to modernize and enhance the facilities available to the Dhobi community. The project encompasses various components, including the establishment of washing cells equipped with furnaces, irons, and storage facilities on the first floor. Additionally, a cloth drying area is being designated to facilitate efficient laundry operations. Boring for water supply on the ghat ensures uninterrupted access to water, crucial for the laundry activities conducted by approximately 200 families belonging to the Dhobi community. Moreover, the facade painting of the ghat not only adds aesthetic value but also serves as a tribute to the great men of the Dhobi community, preserving their legacy for future generations. By providing modern amenities and suitable means of livelihood, this project not only improves the quality of life for the Dhobi community but also benefits approximately 150 individuals from surrounding areas. The investment of Rs. 38.51 lakh underscores the Varanasi Development Authority's commitment to socio-economic development and empowerment, ensuring equitable access to essential services and opportunities for communities in need.
